Stray Dog Cuddles Up To Old Teddy Bear Until Someone Rescues Him
The homeless canine lacked a haven or anyone to shower him with affection, yet a soft teddy bear provided solace, cradled against his fur for warmth.
While navigating through a Montgomery, Texas, community, Kourtnee Blount, an impassioned dog rescuer, spotted the pooch nestled beside a plush teddy bear, nestled snugly amidst the grassy expanse between two plots.
Reflecting on the encounter, Blount shared with The Dodo, “As I rounded the bend, there he was, nestled with the bear.” “It seemed he’d salvaged it from a nearby heap of discarded items, as there was an array of debris scattered around him.”
Her heart weighed heavy with empathy. “It truly tugged at my heartstrings. It was truly gut-wrenching,” Blount added.
Due to the prevalence of unleashed dogs in the neighborhood, Blount initially presumed the dog belonged to someone. However, after inquiries yielded no owner and locals mentioned seeing the dog roaming for a month, Blount’s assumption was challenged.
Sharing snapshots of the pup cuddled with his teddy bear on social media, Blount pleaded for assistance, prompting Destiny Swatzel, an independent rescuer, to step forward. Nonetheless, by the time Swatzel arrived to retrieve the puppy, dubbed Teddy by rescuers, she feared she had arrived too late.
Recalling the moment to The Dodo, Swatzel recounted, “I embarked on my search for him on Monday, only to find him sprawled in the middle of the thoroughfare.” “In that instant, I truly feared the worst and was gripped by panic.”
As Swatzel cautiously approached, Teddy lifted his head—a gesture that elicited a relieved exhale from Swatzel, dispelling her initial dread.
Swatzel recounted, “I signaled for his approach with a whistle.” “He casually ambled over, allowing me to loop a leash around him.”
While noting the presence of the teddy bear, Swatzel opted against taking it due to its damp and moldy condition from the recent rain. As for Teddy the dog, he had outgrown the need for his bear, now having humans to provide care for him.
Swiftly, Swatzel examined Teddy for a microchip, finding none. Additionally, the absence of a collar or any other form of identification left no trace of a previous owner.
“He regurgitated a mix of chicken bones, plastic fragments, pebbles, and leaves inside the car,” Swatzel recounted. “It was evident he had been scavenging to survive on the streets.”
Taking Teddy under her wing, Swatzel brought him home where she tended to his needs, providing nourishment, a thorough bath, and the chance to frolic with her other rescued canines. Later that day, Teddy embarked on what was initially meant to be a temporary stay at Mary St. Dizier’s foster home, only to find his forever abode.
Teddy instantly captured St. Dizier’s heart the moment she laid eyes on him. “I couldn’t hold back the tears,” St. Dizier confessed. “I just knew he belonged with me.”
Blue, formerly known as Teddy, finds delight in frolicking alongside his newfound canine companion, Bear, and feline sibling, Patches. His joy extends to outings at the dog park and relishing in soothing belly rubs as he reclines on the sofa.
“He’s thriving,” affirmed St. Dizier. “He possesses admirable manners and exudes a charming innocence.”
