Double-Amputee Rescue Dog Gets Adopted By Police Detective Who Lost His Own Leg

All shelter canines are in search of the ideal residence, and it is crucial to locate the most suitable individual. However, it can occasionally prove challenging to find a suitable home for a pet with specific requirements. These animals require someone who comprehends them and can provide the additional affection they require.

Fortunately, these dogs do occasionally discover their perfect match in an owner who shares similar circumstances. This was recently exemplified when a dog with double amputations found a kindred soul.

As per reports from KGTV, two canine companions—Chloe, a 9-year-old Shih Tzu, and Roxy, a 13-year-old Chihuahua—were liberated on March 6 by the San Diego Humane Society from a distressing domestic environment. Their owner resorted to wrapping their hind paws to prevent scratching, but unfortunately, the wrapping was excessively tight, leading to restricted blood circulation.

Chloe endured severe damage to her paws, necessitating partial amputation of both feet.

Nevertheless, with the compassionate assistance of the SDHS, Chloe swiftly regained her mobility and was soon back on her paws.

They helped her learn to walk again, using a wheelchair and prosthetics, and she now uses orthopedic slippers.

While recovering, she was placed in foster care — with a foster parent with a unique understanding of her situation. James “Chappie” Hunter, a San Diego Police detective, is also an amputee: he lost his leg in a motorcycle crash , but has continued to work thanks to a prosthetic.

Hunter and Chloe no doubt shared a special, unique bond. Matching a pet and a human with similar disabilities can be mutually beneficial.

We have come across recent accounts of children with conditions such as amputated legs and cleft palates who have adopted dogs that share their conditions. This has given them a sense of confidence and provided them with a companion who truly understands them.

After fostering Chloe for three months, Hunter made the decision to officially adopt her!

On the other hand, Roxy, the mistreated dog who was discovered with Chloe, is also making progress towards recovery. As reported by KGTV, the chihuahua underwent partial amputation of her left hind foot, but is now in the process of learning to walk again with the help of a prosthetic device.

Currently, she resides in a foster home and is expected to recover fully within the next month.

One can only hope that she will eventually find her ideal forever home with someone who truly comprehends her needs. It would be a truly heartwarming conclusion for both of these unfortunate dogs.

The news of an animal being adopted is always uplifting, but it becomes exceptionally extraordinary when it involves a tale like this one. It is a story of a dog and an owner who were undeniably destined to be united.
