Good Dog Saved His Family By Finding A Hidden Fire At Home

Upon first meeting Willow, Caitlyn Radel-Paaby instantly recognized her as a delightful child. “She’s a natural cuddler and finds joy in giving hugs,” Radel-Paaby shared with The Dodo.

At 10 months old, the Great Pyrenees remains somewhat timid, yet her dedication to her family knows no bounds – a trait exemplified by her recent act of bravery.

On the eve of Thanksgiving, returning from a trip to the grocery store, Radel-Paaby arrived home to find her boyfriend with her young son downstairs, and Willow conspicuously absent. Known for her attentiveness to her mother, Willow’s absence immediately raised concerns for Radel-Paaby.

After a thorough search of the house, Willow was discovered beneath the desk in the office, exhibiting signs of distress and vocalizing anxiously. “She had wedged herself under the desk, displaying signs of agitation and persistent barking, refusing to emerge,” Radel-Paaby recounted. “It was only when she adopted a defensive stance to capture our attention that we noticed the danger posed by the electrical outlet.”

Radel-Paaby couldn’t discern what had sparked Willow’s curiosity, yet as Willow reached out to touch the wall, she sensed warmth emanating from it. Willow’s keen perception had detected an electrical fire brewing within the outlet beneath the desk before it erupted into flames.

Without hesitation, the family dialed the fire department, whose prompt response swiftly quenched the burgeoning sparks. “The fire department informed us that had we not noticed it in time, our home would have been engulfed in flames by morning,” Radel-Paaby recounted.

Filled with gratitude, Radel-Paaby rejoiced in her daughter’s courageous act, recognizing it as a milestone in overcoming her former apprehensions, fondly referred to as her “puppy fear period.

Radel-Paaby expressed astonishment, stating, “This is entirely out of character for her; it caught us completely off guard.” He went on to explain how Willow is perpetually vigilant about her human sibling’s well-being, displaying an unusual level of attachment towards him and always quick to alert them to any minor issues, though never anything significant until this incident.

The following day, as the family gathered once more around the Thanksgiving table, it dawned on them that they had an unexpected reason to give thanks – their beloved Willow had proven herself a hero.
