On a dreary, wet afternoon, NYPD Officer Michael Pascale encountered Joey for the first time. Cruising through a public park in his patrol car, he espied a diminutive black dog nestled amidst discarded needles and shattered beer bottles.
Upon closer scrutiny, Officer Pascale noticed the canine adorned with a hefty chain around its neck, fastened to a fence. Joey was drenched, trembling, and blatantly forsaken.
Pascale recounted, “He just gazed up at me. My initial instinct was I must rescue him from this plight.
The compassionate officer escorted Joey to the Animal Care Centers of NYC shelter situated in Brooklyn. As he gently patted Joey dry with a towel, he sensed an undeniable connection forming between them.
Sharing a snapshot of the pitiable pup with his wife via text elicited an immediate response: (Let’s bring him home!) In a snap decision, the couple resolved to adopt Joey — with just one minor obstacle in their path.
The staff at the ACC notified Officer Pascale that Joey would need to undergo a mandatory 72-hour stray hold under their supervision.
Returning the very next day — and the day after that — Officer Pascale and Joey’s bond deepened with each visit.
Finally, Pascale was liberated to legally embrace Joey as his own. Once the final paperwork was signed, Joey eagerly bounded out to greet Pascale one last time, showering him with ecstatic kisses.
Together, they made their way home, embarking on the journey of their new life together.
“Thank you for rescuing this precious doggy,” Pascale expressed gratefully. “It’s unfathomable how anyone could be so callous and cruel to them. Whoever inflicted such harm should face the same treatment.”
