Puppy Left In 122-Degree Car Gets Adopted By Firefighters Who Saved Him

Leaving a dog in a hot car is a perilous decision, as dogs are highly vulnerable to heatstroke, and numerous unfortunate pets have succumbed to this fate due to being trapped in vehicles.

Almost falling victim to such a dire circumstance was a gentle dog, now fortunate to have found a loving home with the compassionate individuals who rescued him.

In recent events, a vigilant resident of East Haven, Connecticut, took prompt action by alerting authorities upon spotting a 6-month-old puppy confined in a sweltering car close to the beach, as reported by the local Patch. The temperature inside the vehicle had soared to a staggering 122 degrees, highlighting the imminent danger the poor canine faced.

The timely rescue by the East Haven Fire Department prevented a potential tragedy for the pup, sparing it from an uncertain fate.

The narrative deeply resonated with East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora, prompting him to extend a warm welcome to the puppy at Town Hall following its examination at the local animal shelter.

Captivated by the irresistible charm of the rescued canine, Carfora fielded numerous appeals for the town to adopt it as a symbol. After thoughtful deliberation, it was unanimously agreed that the puppy should find its forever home with those who had intervened in its hour of need: henceforth, it will reside at the fire department headquarters, bestowed with the honorary title of “Station Support Dog.”

Carfora expressed confidence in the pup’s excellent temperament, foreseeing seamless integration with on-duty crews and serving as a department ambassador at public education and community events.

The town orchestrated a naming competition, ultimately christening the pup as “Riggs.” Riggs has seamlessly transitioned into his new role as an honorary fire dog and a cherished member of the community.

The mayor anticipates Riggs making a positive impact on both firefighters’ well-being and the broader community as he settles into his new responsibilities.

While it’s disheartening that Riggs endured the ordeal of being left in a hot car, the community finds solace in knowing that he now has a bright future ahead. Gratitude extends to all those involved in rescuing him.
